How availability works

Game pools are generated from build-time regional Pokedex endpoints. Version exclusives are applied at species level. Team cards also note each Pokemon's local breeding groups. Mythicals are excluded unless the selected game has a local obtainable exception, like RBY Mew, Gen 3 Jirachi, or ORAS Deoxys.

What the settings actually do

Difficulty filters by base stat total

Every difficulty is a base-stat-total window applied to the game's available pool. It is a blunt measure — BST says nothing about how the stats are distributed, and a well-spread 450 often outperforms a lopsided 500 — but it is the one number that reliably separates "this can carry a playthrough" from "this cannot".

Unique primary types is the setting that matters most

A random six is usually worse than a chosen six for one reason: it stacks weaknesses. Roll freely and you will regularly get three Water types, which means one Electric gym leader threatens half your team at once. Forcing six different primary types is the single setting that turns an unplayable roll into a workable one, because it guarantees the defensive spread that stacking destroys. Run the result through team analysis if you want to see the difference.

Using it for a challenge run

The common setup is to roll once, before starting, and treat the result as binding — no re-rolling for a better team. Pair it with a game whose pool you have not memorised and the early game becomes a genuine planning problem rather than a repeat of the same starter route. Hard Mode with legendaries and starters disabled is the usual choice for players who already find standard runs comfortable.

Rolls respect the selected game's regional dex and version exclusives, so a Black team will not hand you a White-exclusive Pokemon you could never catch. If you are running a Nuzlocke on top of this, the Nuzlocke guide covers how the standard rules interact with a fixed random roster.
