Fuchsia City — Janine

Fuchsia hosts Janine (Koga's daughter), a Poison gym. The Safari Zone is closed in Crystal — the warden's around but there's no hunting, so don't go looking for it.

Optimal call: Janine is underleveled (low–mid 30s) and folds to Psychic or Ground. An easy badge — clear it on the way through.

Cinnabar and Seafoam — The Blaine Quest

SurfWater south to Cinnabar Island — but the island was destroyed by a volcanic eruption; only a lone Pokémon Center floats offshore. A man there tells you Blaine relocated his gym to the Seafoam Islands. Head to Seafoam (between Cinnabar and Fuchsia) to challenge him.

Heads up: The Seafoam Islands cave needs SurfWater, Strength, and WhirlpoolWater to navigate. In Crystal this stop is purely for Blaine's gym routing.

Pewter City — Brock and the Silver Wing

Pewter has Brock's Rock gym and a key item for the endgame.

Lugia
Silver Wing → Lugia
From an old man in the Pewter Pokémon Center
Optimal call: Talk to the old man in the Pewter Pokémon Center for the Silver Wing — your key to Lugia at the Whirl Islands (Phase 11). For Brock himself, a Grass attacker is 4× super-effective on his entire team — it's the cleanest sweep in Kanto.

Viridian City — Blue

Viridian's gym leader is Blue — the toughest Kanto leader, and he'll only battle once you hold the other seven Kanto badges. His mixed team punishes a one-trick lineup; you need broad coverage and Lv 55+.

Optimal call: After beating Blue (your 16th badge), travel to Pallet Town and talk to Professor Oak — he grants permission to enter Mt. Silver, the road to Red (Phase 12).

Mt. Moon — Final Rival Battle

Your rival makes his last story stand at Mt. Moon (around the Mt. Moon Square event). He's now a full six and his ace is fully evolved.

Team Recommendations

A strong Grass attacker: ★ 4× sweeps Brock and helps vs Blaine's Magcargo and Blue's Rhydon.
Water: Sweeps Blaine and dents Blue's Rhydon/Arcanine.
Psychic + Dark: Psychic for Janine; Dark for the rival's and Blue's Psychics.
Broad coverage for Blue: Electric, Rock/Ice, and a Fighting/Ground hit — his six have no shared weakness, so you need a balanced six of your own at Lv 55+.

Legendary Note

The legendary note this phase is simple: collect the Silver Wing in Pewter — the key to Lugia at the Whirl Islands, handled in Phase 11. No other Crystal legendary opens during this Kanto cleanup.

HM Update

No new HMs. You'll use SurfWater + Strength + WhirlpoolWater heavily in the Seafoam Islands for Blaine, and SurfWater/WaterfallWater to island-hop. Keep your field moves spread across bulky members so your six are battle-ready for Blue.

Phase 10 Checklist

  • Beat Janine (Soul Badge).
  • Found Cinnabar burnt and beat Blaine at Seafoam (Volcano Badge).
  • Grabbed the Silver Wing and swept Brock with Grass (Boulder Badge).
  • Beat the Blue gym with full coverage (Earth Badge — 16 total).
  • Won the final Mt. Moon rival battle.
  • Talked to Oak in Pallet to unlock Mt. Silver.
