Olivine City — Cure Amphy

FlyFlying or SurfWater back to Olivine and climb the lighthouse with the SecretPotion. Heal Amphy at the top — Jasmine thanks you and heads back down to her gym, finally open for business.

Strength and the Port

Before the gym, pick up HM04 Strength from the sailor in Olivine's port/café area — the Plain Badge already lets you use it, so you can now shove boulders (handy in Mt. Mortar and later caves). Olivine's harbor is also where the S.S. Aqua ferry to Kanto departs, but that's a postgame trip.

Optimal call: Slap Strength on the same body carrying SurfWater/Cut so your attackers keep their move slots. With SurfWater + Strength in hand you can now fully clear Mt. Mortar for a free Tyrogue.

Mt. Mortar — Tyrogue Detour

Mt. Mortar (off Route 42, between Ecruteak and Mahogany) is an optional cave with strong catches and a gift. Deep inside, a Black Belt gives you a Tyrogue.

Optimal call: A Fighting-type from here (Tyrogue's evolutions or a Machop) is great coverage for the Normal/Rock/Ice/Dark you'll meet — and Hitmontop/Hitmonchan are fun, viable picks. Skip Mt. Mortar if you're rushing; it's optional.

Team Recommendations

A Ground, Fire, or Fighting attacker: ★ All three hit Jasmine's Steel team super-effectively — a single good one wins the gym.
Fighting from Mt. Mortar: Tyrogue-line or Machop covers Jasmine and a lot of the Kanto run.
Watch your Electric/Water/Flying: Jasmine's Magnemites carry ThunderboltElectric — don't lead a frail Water/Flying into them.

Gym Strategy - Jasmine, The Steel Leader

Gym puzzle: None — straight to Jasmine once Amphy is cured.

Steelix Steelix Lv 35 MovesScreechSunny DayRock ThrowIron Tail Read★ Ace — huge Defense, Screech drops yours.

How to win: Steel is weak to Fire, Fighting, and Ground. Ground is ideal because it hits both the Electric/Steel Magnemites and Steel/Ground Steelix. Fighting also hits all three, while Fire roasts the Magnemites and chips Steelix. Steelix has monster Defense, so use special Fire or a strong Ground/Fighting hit and do not sit in defense-drop range.

Heads up: The Magnemites' Thunder WaveElectric + SupersonicNormal can paralyze and confuse you into a slow loss. Bring a Ground-type they can't easily threaten and end the fight quickly.

Time / Day Window

No hard time gates this phase. The S.S. Aqua ferry from Olivine to Kanto runs only in the postgame (you need the S.S. Ticket). Roaming Raikou/Entei can still pop up as you FlyFlying around — keep a Fast Ball ready.

Legendary Note

No new legendary trigger here. Suicune's catchable Tin Tower encounter is now one phase away — it unlocks once you beat Pryce and clear the Goldenrod Radio Tower (Phase 7) to receive the Clear Bell. Keep Raikou/Entei alive when they roam. See the Legendary Reference.

HM Update

Unlocked this phase: HM04 Strength (Olivine port). Now you can move boulders — needed to fully explore Mt. Mortar and several later caves. Coverage: FlashNormal + Cut + SurfWater + FlyFlying + Strength. Still missing WhirlpoolWater (comes next phase from Lance after the Mahogany raid) and WaterfallWater (Ice Path, Phase 8).

Phase 6 Checklist

  • Cured Amphy with the SecretPotion to open the gym.
  • Picked up HM04 Strength at the Olivine port.
  • (Optional) Cleared Mt. Mortar for Tyrogue and items.
  • Beat Jasmine with Ground/Fire/Fighting → Mineral Badge + TM23 Iron TailSteel.
